The player drawing the lowest card becomes the first dealer. The small number of cards allows a visually impaired individual to determine which card to play fast enough to enjoyably participate in a game.To determine the first dealer, each player should cut a card from the deck which has been laid face down on the table. Games such as Euchre, Cribbage, or Pinochle, which require players to hold a small number of cards seem to work best for the visually impaired. In addition to Pinochle, also see the listing for decks of 52 as well as Euchre Cards for the Blind.

THE CARDS WORK, PLEASE GIVE A VISUALLY IMPAIRED PERSON WHO YOU CARE ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY TO ENJOY PLAYING CARDS. ALL INCOME FROM THE SALE OF CARDS IS USED TO PAY EXPENSES AND PROVIDE CARDS FOR INDIVIDUALS OR GROUPS WHO SERVE THE BLIND. I am happy to give instructions for using the cards via phone or email. The more simple the system, the easier and more relaxing it is to play. The primary goal of this project is to allow visually impaired individuals to relax and have fun. The notch along the side tells the denomiination (ace, king, etc) of the card. The small notch on the top edge of the card informs the blind card payer the suit of the card. “KEEP IT SIMPLE” IS THE MAIN IDEA IN THE NOTCH SYSTEM. The notch system on the cards is easily mastered in about 30 minutes. He easily learned to use the euchre cards and played regularly for many years. My father, Richard, loved playing card games, especially Euchre. The cards are now distributed internationally to help blind and visually impaired individuals enjoy recreational time through playing cards.

Since inventing Euchre Cards for the Blind, which uses only 24 cards, the program was expanded to include deck of 52 cards as well as Pinochle Cards. I invented the euchre cards in 2006 when my father, lost the last of his vision. She was brought to tears when she tried the cards which she easily was able to use. The counselor had just heard about euchre cards which worked for the blind and explained this to his client. When the counselor ask her what she missed most from the days when she could see, she responded that she really missed playing cards (specifically euchre) with her friends. History: In 2013, a lady who had gone blind was going to a counselor at a center for the blind. With practice, a blind individual may play various cards games with little delay or confusion. The marking system is normally learned quickly. The notch system allow for the identification of the cards by using a minimum of marks or alterations to the cards. Design of Cards: Playing Cards for the Blind have small notches on the edge of the card which allow the blind player to quickly determine which cards are in their hand. The primary difference in the play of card games with Pinochle Cards for the Blind is that players verbally identify (out loud) the card which they are playing. Braille cards may be difficult to use for older card players (and those with neuropathy in their finger tips ). The cards are an alternative to braille playing cards. The cards are notched on the edges to allow a visually impaired player to quickly determine the suit and denomination of the card. PINOCHLE Playing Cards for the Blind use standard playing cards which have been adapted for use by blind and visually impaired card players.
